I spent decades pastoring an attractional church in Kansas City. We had the crowds, the professional staff, and the impressive programs. But eventually, I had to look at the spent matches of my own ministry and face a brutal fact that many leaders are still trying to ignore: the disciples we were making were not making disciples. We had built a highly sophisticated system of knowledge transfer, but we had failed to spark a movement of multiplication. We were running a spiritual engine that required professional experts to operate, leaving ordinary believers as passive consumers.

The hard truth is that the Great Commission is not a recruitment mandate for our Sunday services; it is a multiplication mandate. When we make disciple-making dependent on professional credentials, theological degrees, or elaborate stage productions, we bottleneck the gospel. If a method cannot be easily repeated by an ordinary person in the places where they live, learn, work, and play, it will not multiply. To see movements that actually reach our cities, we have to transition from running expert-dependent programs to cultivating simple, reproducible habits.

Consider Margaret, a woman I met in northern Kenya. She cannot read or write, has no formal theological education, and holds none of the credentials we Westerners think are required for ministry. Yet, she is responsible for over four hundred local churches. She didn't build them through professional management; she simply practiced a few repeatable habits, and the people she trained did the same. Her story proves that when the work is simple enough, it takes on a life of its own, compounding like a flywheel. The first few turns are slow and heavy, but eventually, the momentum of ordinary people obeying God does the heavy lifting.

But these habits are not a sterile checklist. They are like spokes on a wheel, and at the center of that wheel is the Heart of the Father. The Father is not waiting for us to get everything right before He acts; He is lovesick, watching the road, and running to meet His lost children before they even make it home. If we do not share this heart, the habits become empty techniques. But when we anchor our practices in His love for the lost, the spokes hold together, and the wheel begins to turn.
