Roy Moran is the rare Western voice trusted simultaneously by classically trained senior pastors and by global Disciple-Making Movement practitioners, because he is both. He co-founded Shoal Creek Community Church in the Kansas City metropolitan area in 1992 with his wife Candy and a handful of others, building it on the Willow Creek attractional template, and served as its senior pastor for roughly twenty-five years. Trained in Greek studies at Baylor University and credentialed with a Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary, he came to a decisive crisis in the mid-2000s when he was finally willing to admit out loud that the disciples his church was making were not making disciples. That recognition pulled him into a long mentorship under David Watson, the Disciple-Making Movement pioneer behind CityTeam International (now Beyond), and into the global DMM lineage. Rather than abandon his congregation, Moran ran an obedience-based DMM track inside the same body that held his attractional Sunday gathering, then wrote the playbook for doing it.
